Growing Ypsilanti’s economy through investing in local ownership, growing existing businesses, attracting residents, and thinking outside the box.
The financial health of city government must continue to be top priority. We’ve faced serious economic challenges in recent years, so it’s tempting to simply try to keep our head above water. For Amanda, that isn’t good enough. She envisions an Ypsilanti that is capable and thriving, not just surviving.
As mayor, Amanda will be a relentlessly positive ambassador for our city. Attracting new residents, businesses, and visitors is critical to the stability of city government and the growth of local economy. Growing our city requires us to provide safe neighborhoods, ensure an inclusive offering of housing options, expand public transportation, and support public schools.
Thriving local economies prioritize local ownership. Supporting existing businesses and helping area residents become entrepreneurs will attract people to live in and invest in our community. Local ownership leads to local involvement and accountability. Amanda’s approach to economic development is to be proactive in shaping out future, and she applauds the city’s Shape Ypsi master planning process as a way to engage the community in imagining our city’s future.
